Artist Statement and Bio

I have been an illustrator, exhibit fabricator and graphic designer for more than 15 years.  My inspiration springs from the natural world and I hope my illustrations bring others to stop and appreciate the beauty in nature.  I enjoy playing with type, symbols and color to represent meaning. I have completed projects for a variety of clients with varied needs. These include book & magazine publishers, educational institutions, museums, arts organizations, non-profits, as well as other private businesses.

Graphic Designer
Have worked for several companies on a freelance basis creating identity packages including logos, brochures, presentations, illustrations and marketing materials as well as illustrations and covers for books as listed in my client list.  I work primarily in Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign as well as traditional mediums.

1997-1999 American Museum of Natural History, New York, NY
Senior Artist, Anthropology Department
Created technical renderings in pen and ink, watercolor, gouche.  Also used Photoshop, Illustrator, and Quark.  Illustrated a variety of subjects including, artifacts, site renderings and maps.  Developed cover designs and layouts of books and brochures.  As the Senior Artist I was responsible for coordinating and overseeing all of the art production for the department. 

1994-1999 New York Botanical Gardens, Bronx, NY
Research Assistant-part time
Illustrated palms and prepared maps that are published in journals and books on palms.  Created extensive databases on palm collections including collection date, location, and species in Excel.  Created maps from this information on species diversity in Latin America.  Managed the herbarium collection and was responsible for reorganizing the entire palm collection due to additions and taxonomic changes.

Preparator 
Fabricated scientifically accurate dioramas for museum exhibits using a wide range of mediums and working in 2 and 3 dimensional design.  Created brochures and informational pamphlets and was involved in the planning and design as well as execution of exhibits.

1993-1994 Rika Art and Design, Hewlett, NY
Office Manager and Landscape Installer
Managed all aspects of landscape and nursery business including, client contact, finances, advertising, drafting plans, propagation, nursery care, and garden installations.
